Field mowing is one way we maintain and enhance grassy landscapes – by mowing at the correct cutting height and at the appropriate frequency, our goal is to use mowing as a way to promote grass stand health rather than just to control weeds. A healthy grass stand can act as its own form of weed prevention! We also use mowing as a form of fire mitigation by reducing fuel loads on sites adjacent to buildings or valuable trees. Mowing can help prepare sites for seeding if there are large tumbleweeds present, as they can clog the seeder. Opening up the vegetative canopy by mowing prior to seeding, whether it’s cutting down dried up weeds or existing grass, will give newly seeded plants better access to sunlight and moisture as they establish. Our batwing mower can cut vegetation up to three inches in diameter, can cut at a height of four to 14 inches, and is best suited for larger acreage fields. We can supplement this larger mower with smaller riding mowers and weed whackers, which are more appropriate for steep areas and tidying up around trees or fence lines.
